How electricity reaches to our house ?

In today's world it's impossible to live without phones , TVs and other electronic gadgets. We need electricity to operate these gadgets. But have you ever thought how electricity reaches  to our house. Well today, we at eStudyan decodes this topic for you.

The electricity supply board of our city provides two wire in our area and tied them to electric poles of our area. In these two wires one is live wire and other is neutral wire. These two wires reaches our house 🏠.

Now an electric meter is fitted in our home by the electric supply board. This meter measures the amount of unit of electricity consumed by us in a given month. And in accordance with that they provide us suitable electric bill to us.

These two wires now gets connected to two separate fuses , one before getting into electric meter and other before reaching to the consumer's circuit.  We also connected fuse in our room circuit for safety.

Now after passing from electric meter these two wire are provided to consumer to connect where they want to use electricity in there home. Obviously we don't creates our home circuit by our own. But if any person do this , he/she should know the separation of live wire and neutral wire, otherwise he may create a wrong circuit which can cause short- circuiting. If you don't know about  short circuiting then just wait I will explain this for you. But first let's know how to separate live wire and neutral wire.
Live wire is coloured red and neutral wire is  coloured black  to separate live wire and neutral wire.
Now an electrician can simply separate live wire and neutral wire.
But sometimes only these two wires are not enough for an electrical device to  use electricity. I am not saying that can't get electricity from these two wires , i am saying that it will be harmful for ourselves to operate them with only live and neutral wire.
The above statement is valid for Metallic devices such as electric iron , metallic fan etc.
In those devices we connect another wire called earth wire i.e. we do earthing. Earthing is the process in which create a circuit in such a way that an extra wire( earth wire) is connected to the electrical device which is connected to earth. Earthing transfers all the extra currents to the earth which prevents us from getting shock.
Now i hope you have understood the benefit of earthing an metallic electrical deice.

Our domestic electric circuit is a parallel circuit. In parallel circuit voltage in each resistances(devices) remains constant.

We have moved quite away in this discussion but have you thought about the function of fuse. I had used this word above. Before discussing this we should learn these two  short topics :-

1.short circuiting:-

The touching of live and neutral wire is called short circuiting. This can result in fire🔥 in our house.

2.Overloading:-

Connecting too much devices in a single socket is called overloading. It can also cause fire🔥.

Sometimes a very high voltage currents comes in our house. What will happen , the insulation of live wire may melt and it may touch the neutral wire resulting short circuiting. Here comes the importance of fuse wire. In that case the fuse wire will melt , preventing the flow of electric current ahead. Hence we will remain safe.

By this, let's end today's article . I hope all of you have understood about domestic electric circuit. See you soon!.
