How does 🌈Rainbow🌈 forms ?
Nature shows many interesting and beautiful phenomena to us and we always curious to explore about those phenomenas. One such phenomenon is the formation of Rainbow in the sky. If you want to explore about this topic just read this full article.
Rainbow:-. It is the arch of seven colours which forms in the sky when it rains and sun is ⛅ in the sky at same time.
How does rainbow forms? |
We can see rainbow by standing in front of rain with our back in front of the sun.
Now, before tuning to the formation of rainbow we should be clear about dispersion of light. So let's first learn about it.
Dispersion of light
The splitting of white light into seven colours i.e. Spectrum is called dispersion of light.
This phenomenon can easily be observed by passing white light through a glass prism.
Dispersion of light through glass prism |
The above picture shows the dispersion of white light through glass prism.
The seven colours in which white light splits are:- violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. These are collectively known as spectrum.
Now we have got the basic knowledge of dispersion of light which is sufficient to understand the formation of Rainbow. So let's come on the main topic.
Formation of Rainbow
When it rains and sunshine in the sky at same time, the sunlight passes through rain drops. The rain drops here acts as a glass prism. Those rain drops helps the splitting of sunlight into VIBGYOR (also called spectrum).
When sunlight passes through a rain drop it refracts inside and undergoes total internal reflection. This causes formation of rainbow in the sky. We can observe rainbow by standing with our back towards sun and in front of rainfall.
